By the time Demeter found her daughter, Persephone had already eaten six pomegranate seeds from the underworld. Therefore, it was pronounced that for six months of the year, Persephone must return to Hades in the underworld. When Persephone returns back to her mother Demeter, Spring and Summer begin, and the earth can bloom once again
