In 1986 we were offered a small Birkenstock Footprints store on the Miracle Mile of Stockton, California. With no money down, a monthly rent of $250, a little help from Frank’s parents, and 119 pairs of shoes, we thought, “We could try this and see if we like it”. Birkenstock had been in the US market for 20 years. With the company’s burgeoning reputation, support and training, and the Golden Rule in mind, we embarked on a new career: providing comfort to others. Dozens of customers filled our little shop to meet Margot at our Grand Opening. She wowed us, modeling the key elements of a successful business in motion. We listened as Margot listened to our customers share their passion for the brand. Her excitement for Birkenstock’s comfort was contagious and helped us and our staff engage with our customers. Margot, president of a multi-million dollar company, humbly knelt to buckle shoes on a budding ‘Birks’ convert.
The desire to connect with and serve our customers became the foundation of our business philosophy as we built a reputation of offering brands that commit to quality craftsmanship.
By 1994 we had outgrown our little shop and moved to Lincoln Center. More growth followed, as Birkenstock-USA encouraged us to open an additional store in an underserved market: Midtown Sacramento.
In 2002, with our roots in mind, we opened an exclusively Birkenstock brand store on J at 25th Streets. The response to this store inspired our 2005 expansion on that same corner, allowing us to branch into additional brands. We sold our Stockton store, left our Lodi country living to fully embrace the Sacramento community. As a healthy small business in this fertile valley, in the Fall of 2016 we chose our current location at 2612 J Street.
Along with our growth as owners, partners, and parents, we have had the privilege of employing wonderful staff (some of them family). Our team members impart their unique gifts and share the joy of customer care. Whether it be fitting, special ordering, or creating excitement around new offerings with our special brand events- not a day goes by that we don’t laugh together and share a positive interaction with our customers. We tried on a Birkenstock store as a career 38 years ago and it fits!
